Here's a McDougall recipe that my daughter in law came up with. The peanut sauce is one of Mary McDougall's recipes. My question - can anyone think of what other kind of sauce this could have that would make it MWL? Please let me know. It is really delicious. Thanks, Laura

Spinach/CHickpea/Peanut  Dinner

Saute2 onions and cook until soft or browned
Dumpin one 16 oz can drained chickpeas
Addone lb bag of frozen cut spinach –mix
1cup peanut  sauce
Cover, cook over med heat for about 15 minutes stirring occasionally

Serveover brown rice

I can think of some sauces, but nothing that tastes even close to the peanuts in the original sauce.  I think I might try a white sauce with mushrooms over it.

Hope someone knows of a great peanut substitute.

I know, it might just have to be a feast meal. Does anyone know why the recipe showed up so small, and my posting so big? I copied and pasted from Word, and the print looked big when I did it. Take care, LauraA

"Ginger people" has a variety of stirfry sauces, mostly without oil.  They have a ginger peanut one that has some "peanut powder" or some such thing in it - I don't think it has oil in it and it doesn't have much fat....but more than their usual ones.  Might want to check it out.  I'll go see if they have a website and post it if they do.

I've had it - it tastes a bit peanutty without the big peanut fat.  Otherwise, might try a curry sauce.

Okay - I googled it.  http://www.gingerpeople.com/    It has all their products, you can order on line and I looked up the ingredients - the ginger peanut sauce has a little oil in it and way too much fat for MWL - 1g per serving (9 calories out of 25).    But they have several other sauces without oil (some I haven't tried and may order since the store doesn't carry them) and their sauces are GOOD.    That said, if you want to make a sauce at home, I think a curry sauce would make a good substitute for a peanut sauce.  Use some coconut extract instead of coconut milk for the flavor.
