Oatmeal Smoothie

Oatmeal Smoothie

2 cups soy milk (or almond milk, rice milk, etc.)
1 medium banana
1t. vanilla extract
1/2 cup raspberries
1/4 cup blueberries
1/4 cup blackberries
3/4 cup raw oatmeal (I used the regular oats, not the quick one or steel cut)

Puree in your blender.  Pour into a glass and drink.  Yummy!

I started throwing oats into my smoothies a few weeks ago and this morning put a LOT in there.  Very good and helps keep it thick without needing as much frozen fruit.  All of the berries that I used were frozen when they went into the blender.

I am going to try this and knowing me, I will toss in a few romaine leaves or spinach, turning it into a green smoothie. ;)

Fulenn, my dh and I love oatmeal smoothies and enjoy them often, especially in the summer.   I use whatever "milk" with what ever fruit we have on hand, with vanilla and 1 full cup of rolled oats.  It is so yummy, isn't it!

I also add hemp or rice protein powder when we're in heavy training for marathons.  It makes a big difference in our recovery from long runs (10-22 miles).

We also add baby spinach or romaine when we have it.

These are a great portable way to get your oats for sure!

I'm glad to hear that you enjoy it, too!  I thought this was a new innovation of mine, but of course it couldn't be.  There's just too many people out there to have many new ones over here.  ;)   I have found these past couple of weeks that it keeps me from being hungry and gives me a lot of energy all day long.  Your comment about the marathon recovery demonstrates that, too.

I haven't tried it with much else, but will now that I know it's good.

Definitely a great way to get your oats!

The OP recipe makes 4 servings.

I still love oatmeal smoothies and had one for a snack this evening.  This time it was much less complicated, just soy milk, 1/2 banana, frozen raspberries, 1/2 t vanilla and a handful of oats.  Made about 12 ounces.  Mmmmm!
